Came to try a huarache and was not disappointed. Mushroom, steak, and pork. You can have 1 or up to 3 toppings on yours. The staff was very patient with me and extremely prompt and helpful.

A clean, well-run, quite small place with amazing Northern Mexican food as well as their titular huaraches. I haven't seen huaraches elsewhere in Edgewater/Rogers Park, they're like a flatbread pizza but with traditional Mexican ingredients like masa dough, refried beans, nopalitos, meat, cheese, etc. I lived in New Mexico before and everything I've tried at Huaraches Dona Chio tastes like "home" to me - very traditional, salty, limey, stick-to-your-ribs Mexican, a lot of it inspired by Northern Mexican flavors. My favorite dish is their chorizo y papas (potato) burrito which is very flavorful (unlike some potato dishes, if you've found them bland you won't with these!), and they have good horchata as well!

I was trying to find a nice Huarache and Mexican dishes place and we found it. In mexico we normally do this kind of food on weekends and the best thing is they do the size of the Huaraches so huge that one is enough for your hungry. We tried the Asada, the chicken tinga and the Nopales ones, and they were so freshly made that we will return of course again. Here the secret is the dough they use to make the big tortilla wich is very fresh and done from at the moment, and it has smashed beans in the middle. So tasty so good that we will return. Be aware this is a small restaurant so don't expect something fancy, but if you want to try this real Mexican food you will really enjoy it.

Cozy, authentic, tucked away on a side street, this little Mexican restaurant delights with homemade tortillas, savory, but not spicy mole, and a selection of expected favorites. Everything was fresh and tasty and the dozen patrons in the small dining area all seemed to be smiling. You'll pay 3% extra to use a credit credit, but you won't mind

We stopped here after trapeze at the Armory. It was a nice little find. We'd never had huaranches. They were something like a giant tostada on a homemade soft tortilla, or a Mexican pizza. For a first impression, it was pretty tasty (and big)! The staff was very nice. It's a tiny, hidden location without a lot of room, but it's where you find food made with love. We'll definitely go again next time we're in the area.

Everything is delicious. Their tortillas are handmade, and they have a ton of guisos (fillings). I am more of a plant-based eater, so their pumpkin flower and huitlacoche are my favorite and very difficult to find it being served in Mexicsn restaurants. Their Aguas frescas are always refreshing and their service has always been friendly. This is a gem of a "hole in the wall" restaurant in the city. You must try.
